One of the most important elements of building a Habitat home is the family selection process. Habitat for Humanity of Evansville selects families in a manner that makes them feel like full partners in the process, from selection to moving into their homes. We comply fully with the Fair Housing Act and base our selections on specific critieria. To be eligible, a family must have a need for housing, they must have the ability to pay their mortgage, and they must be willing to contribute 300 hours of sweat equity into the building of their homes and the homes of their neighbors.

Families that appear to meet the eligibility criteria based on their pre-application are invited to submit full application. A selection committee reviews each application, conducts home visits and then submits applicant summaries to the Habitat for Humanity of Evansville Board of Directors for final review. The Board then gives final approval or denial of the applicant.
