Habitat for Humanity of Evansville began an aluminum can recycling program in 1999 to help fund the building of homes for people in need. Since then, the affiliate and its community partners have raised more than $100,000.

In 2003, Habitat of Evansville teamed up with the Evansville Otters baseball team to create the annual You Otter Recycle Your Cans night. Anyone who brings a bag of cans to the game gets in free. More than 1,000 pounds of cans typically is collected during this time. In fact, in 2003 Habitat set a Guinness Book of World Records record for aluminum recycling!

If you would like to donate your aluminum cans to Habitat for Humanity of Evansville, please drop them off at one of the following locations:

Clayton Fine Dry Cleaning
• 707 North St. Joseph Avenue
• 4600 Bellemeade Avenue
• 4319 First Avenue at Commerce Avenue

Golden Corral West
• 5301 Pearl Drive

Allied Waste donates its resources to pick up cans at these sites and then takes them to Tri-State Resource Recovery. This program would not be possible without the generous support from these two sponsors.

Want to save cans at your site?
Any church, school, business or other civic organization can request a specially-marked bin to be placed at their site.

For more information about this program, please contact Sr. Jane Michele McClure, development director, at (812) 423-5623, or you may email her.
