By contributing to Habitat for Humanity of Evansville through the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP), you can deduct half your contribution from your Indiana taxes. For example, a $1,000 gift will only cost you $500!

Habitat for Humanity of Evansville was awarded NAP credits through a competitive grant program administered by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority. NAP offers $2.5 million in tax credits annually for distribution by nonprofits such as Habitat for Humanity.

In 2009-10, Habitat for Humanity of Evansville received $39,605 in tax credits to distribute. Additional reallocations boosted the final total to $44,940, of which $3,300 in credits are still available.  This has resulted in gifts of $83,280 to help build houses and improve neighborhoods in our community.  If you would like to take advantage of these credits, call or come by the office for a form.  The credits will be awarded in the order they are received in the office.

How does the NAP work?

Around July 1 of each year, Habitat for Humanity learns whether it has been awarded NAP credits and then sends letters notifying previous donors who have used these credits. If you would like notification, please contact Janette Prickett, NAP coordinator, at (812) 423-5623, ext. 28, or email.

Habitat donors then send a contribution between $100 and $10,000 along with a completed NC-10 form.

Along with a letter of thanks from Habitat for Humanity of Evansville, the Indiana Treasury Department will send donors a form that they will need to send in with their tax return as proof that they are eligible to deduct half their contribution. Donors can save even more if they itemize their federal income tax returns and claim deductions for charitable contributions.

Tax credits are issued on a first come, first serve basis, so they are distributed very quickly, sometimes within the first week of availability. Call Janette Prickett, NAP coordinator, at (812) 423-5623, ext. 28, today to see if any credits are still available.
