For each home it builds locally, Habitat for Humanity of Evansville sends a tithe contribution to help build homes in Jordan and Botswana. Since the tithing program began in 1988, the Evansville affiliate has helped to house nearly 300 families overseas. In 2007 Habitat for Humanity International presented the Evansville affiliate with its Malachi 3:10 award in recognition of it reaching the $500,000 mark in giving. At that time, only about 25 affiliates worldwide had received the award.
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room for it."
