Funds secured for more green builds

Evansville, Indiana (August 11, 2009) – Habitat for Humanity of Evansville is one of 123 affiliates in 45 states selected to participate in a Partners in Sustainable Building program sponsored by the Home Depot Foundation. The $30 million green building program will provide funds and resources over a five-year period to help Habitat affiliates build 5,000 homes that meet Energy Star guidelines or a nationally recognized green building standard. These features incorporate the use of energy-efficient equipment and water-conserving fixtures and help ensure good indoor air quality. Evansville will receive up to $5,000 per home for a maximum of 15 homes next year.

“The generosity of The Home Depot Foundation will help our affiliate expand its green building practices,” said Lori Reed, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Evansville. “We are excited to participate in the Partners in Sustainable Building program.”

Habitat for Humanity of Evansville is currently completing its first Green Build that incorporates many new green building techniques, such as additional insulation in the walls and extended overhangs. The home is located on Cumberland Avenue and is sponsored by Alcoa Warrick Operations, Integra Bank, Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Indiana, Vectren and VPS Architecture.
