Habitat Recognized by Chamber of Commerce Evansville, Indiana (March 11, 2010) – Habitat for Humanity of Evansville was nominated for a 2010 Non-Profit of the Year Award by The Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana during the Chamber Small Business Awards brunch today at The Centre. Along with the other nominees, Habitat was recognized for its outstanding efforts at providing homeownership opportunities for people in Vanderburgh and Posey counites. "We are thankful for this recognition and for the many partners who help us build homes for families who need affordable and safe housing," said Lori Reed, executive director at Habitat for Humanity of Evansville. Habitat is a non-profit Christian housing ministry whose mission is to build and sell simple, decent homes to people in need. To be eligible, families must have a need for housing; they must be willing to contribute 300 hours of sweat equity toward the building of their homes and the homes of others; and they must have the ability to pay their mortgage, based on a 25-year, no-interest loan.
