Habitat for Humanity of Evansville relies heavily on volunteer committees to help with its construction schedule, events and family selection. Anyone interested in volunteering for one of the following committees may contact the Habitat for Humanity of Evansville office at (812) 423-5623. Construction Committee John B. PhippsThe Construction Committee oversees the construction practices and techniques for Habitat homes, helps obtain in-kind donations and provides feedback on materials used during construction. It also serves as a liaison to the regular construction volunteers who support Habitat for Humanity of Evansville. Meets: Bi-Monthly Members Development Committee Steve ThomasThe Development Committee works to secure the financial resources to advance the mission and ministry of Habitat for Humanity of Evansville. Its members approach individuals and groups for support and understand core principles of development and human motivation. Committee Responsibilities Meets: Bi-Monthly Members Family Selection Committee Monica StinchfieldThis committee helps recruit and select the families that are presented to the Board of Directors for approval to become part of the Habitat for Humanity of Evansville program. Members visit individual families and then report back their findings to the committee during its regular meeting. Much of the work of this committee is performed outside the actual meeting, as family visits are conducted routinely during the evening and on weekends. Training and support is provided. Members Interfaith CouncilThe Interfaith Council is an advisory group with broad representation from a diverse group of faith communities in Evansville. Habitat for Humanity of Evansville strives for representation on the Interfaith Council from all major Christian and non-Christian faiths. Council members serve as advocates for the Habitat ministry and work to make simple, decent and affordable housing for all people a matter of conscience and action. Committee Responsibilities Meets: Quarterly Late Pay CommitteeThe Late Pay committee works with Habitat homeowners that are behind in mortgage payments to get back on track. The committee monitors and actively manages past due accounts to ensure homeowners are successful in making mortgage payments. Meets: Reviews reports monthly and meets as needed Members Partner Family CouncilThe Partner Family Council strengthens and expands the community's understanding of the Habitat program and provides leadership for continued improvement of the Habitat ministry. The Council voices partner family concerns and offers input on programs and plans to Habitat leadership. Meets: Once a year in July Members Pastors Advisory CouncilThe Pastors Advisory Council makes recommendations to the Habitat for Humanity of Evansville leadership regarding future plans and programs and offers suggestions on how the ministry could be more responsive to community needs. It also meets with the keynote speaker of the Ministerial Breakfast prior to the breakfast to give feedback and propose ways the annual gathering could be improved. Public Relations Committee Jim LongThe Public Relations Committee promotes awareness about Habitat for Humanity of Evansville and the need for affordable housing to the entire community. Committee Responsibilities • Assist Habitat staff on planning functions, such as donor luncheons, annual sponsor dinners and You Otter Recycle Your Cans day at the Evansville Otters • Assist Habitat staff as needed on creation of promotional items • Support the Speaker’s Bureau by scheduling events and through presentations Meets: Second Monday of each month at noon Members Real Estate CommitteeThe Real Estate Committee secures building sites for Habitat houses. The committee meets periodically to assess land acquisition in various parts of the city and prepare for government surplus and tax sales. Members of the Site Selection Committee are responsible for defined areas of the city to monitor for potential lot acquisition. Meets: Periodically as needed Members |
